2020–2022

In this space, I present 33 stone animals created from 2020 to 2022. During travel restrictions, I often waited for lockdowns to end, collecting small stones that became my sculpting material. Without human models, I turned to carving animals, gradually sending them to New York.

Observe closely to see techniques of spatial compression and perspective alteration used to fit the stones’ shapes, creating visual illusions and tension. The works depict symbiotic scenes among various animal species, engaging in tasks like lifting clouds or diving.

I hope these sculptures break the sense of isolation. I wish for viewers to find their own perspective between bas-relief and round sculpture, where the sense of displacement changes with their gaze. Perhaps these sculptures can migrate like characters in bedtime stories, comforting us in our daydreams and reality. I placed thirty-three sculptures because this is the number of steps I took when I first walked around this exhibition space.
